About Cardinal
Founded in 2006, Cardinal Stage Company began with an ambitious goal: to establish a professional regional theatre of the highest quality in Bloomington.

Bloomington residents have a great variety of interests and Cardinal produces a range of material to match those interests. We tackle and reinterpret classics like Our Town and Romeo & Juliet and produce musical favorites like The Sound of Music, Little Shop of Horrrors, and My Fair Lady. We also stage more challenging material like boom and this season’s outrageous Irish comedy The Lonesome West.

The consistent factor throughout is that Cardinal shows are popular, critically praised, and have added a compelling new dimension to Bloomington’s thriving theatre scene.

"The Sound of Music boasts Cardinal’s signature high-polish production values. The sets, costumes, lighting, sound and overall stagecraft are excellent." - Bloomington's Herald-Times
We take pride in being a community asset for Bloomington, whether it’s boosting the local economy by bringing people downtown to shop and eat, or providing families a welcome new tradition with our popular family holiday show.

We promote local talent from Bloomington and nearby communities. Indiana-based actors and directors also have the chance to work with visiting artists from New York, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, and Louisville.

Alongside staging first rate plays and musicals, we've introduced a number of important outreach programs, including the Community Access Ticket Initiative, which last season brought 1000 children and families from underserved populations to Cardinal shows for free. The CATI program is an important part of Cardinal’s mission to cultivate a lifelong passion for the arts in Bloomington’s diverse community.

We also recently introduced our new Cardinal for Kids series with a very popular production of If you If Give a Mouse a Cookie. The Cardinal for Kids series will expand this season to two production.
