Now Hiring – Production Manager

The Cardinal Production Manager, working closely with the artistic director and business manager, has primary responsibility for all aspects of physical productions at Cardinal Stage Company in Bloomington, IN.

At present, Cardinal operates on an annual budget of $1.2M and produces 5 Mainstage shows and 2 Cardinal for Kids Shows from August to June. Rental venues include a 200-seat black box and a 500+ seat proscenium theater. The Production Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with local technicians, designers and vendors. The Production Manager will work closely with the Technical Director to keep productions on budget and forecast upcoming projects. This is a full-time staff position and the Production Manager will be expected to represent Cardinal in various capacities, as well as support and participate in special events throughout the season.

Ideal candidates will have Production Management and/or Technical Direction experience. In future seasons, there may be an opportunity for the Production Manager to take on some Stage Management duties for additional compensation, so candidates interested in that area should mention it in their cover letter.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all technical aspects of production including:
    • advise on annual production budget
    • realize designs on time and on budget
    • hire and manager crew members, carpenters and other artisans and technicians for each show
    • advise Artistic Director on hiring of designers
    • set production schedules for design deadlines and build completion
    • plan and oversee load in / strikes, including hiring all overhire
    • managing transportation and complying with our rental contract at all venues
    • schedule and lead weekly production meetings during rehearsal and nightly production meetings during tech and previews
    • manage communication between creative team, designers and production staff, including creation of a tech schedule
    • oversee construction of sets and acquisition / build of props
    • manage shop/rehearsal space scheduling
    • consult on scheduling of performance spaces
  • Assist in building oversight and management of Cardinal offices at 900 S Walnut, including the building, grounds, HVAC, props shed. Advise Cardinal management of any additional storage needs to accommodate a production.
  • Provide production support for special events throughout the season, both at Cardinal venues and off-site venues.

Start date: On or around January 2, 2018
Contract: Full-time staff member
