Peter Pan

All children grow up, except one! Clap your hands and believe this holiday season as we fly away to Neverland with Wendy, John, Michael, and of course, Peter Pan. Cardinal’s 11th Family Holiday Musical brings Peter Pan to the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. With a bit of faith, trust, and pixie dust, J.M. Barrie’s magical tale guides us to the second star on the right with a rich score that includes classic musical favorites such as “Never Never Land” and “I Won’t Grow Up.”

REHEARSAL AND PRODUCTION DATES & LOCATIONS

Directed by Amiee Turner, Peter Pan will begin rehearsals in Bloomington, IN on/or about Nov 7, 2017 and the production runs Dec 14 – 30, 2017 at the 550 seat Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

COMPENSATION & UNION CONTRACT DETAILS

Non-Equity actors are paid – negotiated contract + transportation + housing

AUDITION INFO

When:
Tuesday, September 19 – Adults (pick one time block): 4pm-7pm OR 7pm-10pm 
Wednesday, September 20 – Children (age 6-16): 4:30pm-7:30pm (includes one-hour music, one-hour choreography, and one hour reading) / Adult Callbacks (as needed): 7:30pm-10pm

 

Where: Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center, 122 S Walnut St. in the auditorium (3rd floor)

Please bring your resume and headshot to your scheduled audition. If you don’t have a headshot, any picture will do. You may be asked to fill out an information sheet when you arrive.

Adults: All adults (those interested in principal roles and chorus) must attend a group audition on Tuesday, Sept 19th at either 4-7pm or 7-10pm. To arrange a scheduled audition please email us (auditions@cardinalstage.org) a time that you prefer (4-7pm or 7-10pm) and we will respond to confirm.

For the audition, please prepare one brief song of your choice (musical theatre preferred) with sheet music (no tape recorders or CD players please). Be prepared to learn a short dance/movement combination so bring appropriate shoes and clothing. You may also be asked to do cold readings from the script.

Please note that adults may be brought back for an assigned callback on Wednesday, Sept 20 between 7:30-10pm, as needed.

Children (6-16): Children are auditioning for either The Lost Boys (all genders welcome) or John or Michael (male identifying only). To arrange the scheduled audition from 4:30-7:30pm on Wed, Sept 20, please email us (auditions@cardinalstage.org) and we will respond to confirm. All auditioners must be signed in before 4:30pm. Children auditioning should look 6-13 years old, be no taller than 63 inches tall, be able to learn choreography, hold vocal parts, and follow directions.

THE DARLINGS:

MR. DARLING (DOUBLE CAST AS HOOK)
(MALE, 30’s-50’s, Any Ethnicity) Looking for a broad but truthful character actor capable of tenderness, comedy, and heightened bravado from a Shakespearian style mold. Gruff and distant – until the children return and then as delighted as a baby. SIDE (measure 51-99)

MRS. DARLING
(FEMALE, 35-50, Any Ethnicity) A graceful, warm, and loving mother who uses kindness and humor to keep her family well cared for. Looking for a beautiful and warm soprano. SIDE (measure 143-146)

WENDY
(FEMALE, 16-22, Any Ethnicity) The eldest Darling child, on the brink of adolescence. Adventurous and kind. Actor must be a strong actress, good mover, lovely singer, and not afraid to fly. SIDE (measure 143-146)

JOHN
(MALE, 9-13, Any Ethnicity) The middle Darling child. Well-mannered and bookish. Looking for a grand adventure. Actor must have a youthful demeanor, good mover, and not afraid of flying. SIDE (measure 143-146)

MICHAEL
(MALE, 6-9, Any Ethnicity) The youngest Darling child. Sweet and excitable. Actor must be able to follow specific direction, learn movement, and not afraid of flying. SIDE (measure 143-146)

LIZA (DOUBLE CAST AS TIGER LILY)
(FEMALE, 20’s, Any Ethnicity) The Darling’s pleasant and youthful family maid. SIDE (measure 57-119)

NANA (DOUBLE CAST AS CROCODILE)
(MALE, Any Age, Any Ethnicity) The non-speaking role of the faithful and efficient Darling nanny and also the dreaded crocodile who haunts Capt. Hook. Actor must be comfortable with physical acting.

JANE (DOUBLE CAST AS A WARRIOR/LOST BOY OR UNDERSTUDY)
(FEMALE, Stage age 9-13, Any Ethnicity) A grownup Wendy Darling’ child. Just like her mother she itches for a grand adventure. Actor must not be afraid of flying. SIDE (measure 57-119)

THE LOST BOYS:

PETER PAN
(MALE/FEMALE, 20’s, Any Ethnicity) The courageous leader of the Lost Boys who live and play on Neverland. Looking for an actor able to project both childlike wonder and fearless bravado with a clear vocal quality and athletic nature. Must be very comfortable flying. Strong alto/mezzo vocal range. SIDE (measure 168-170)

SLIGHTLY, CURLEY, TWIN #1, TWIN #2, TOOTLES, NIBS
(MALE/FEMALE, 12 – 22, Any Ethnicity) The Lost Boys are little boys who fell out of their carriages and ended up in Neverland playing with Peter. All must sing, dance and act. If you have long hair and cast as a Lost Boy you may be asked to cut your hair short. SIDE (measure 57-119)

THE WARRIORS:

TIGER LILY
(FEMALE, 20’s, Any Ethnicity) Strong, beautiful, fearless leader of the Warrior Tribe. Earthy and athletic. Lives on Neverland and alternately wars with the Lost Boys and the Pirates. Strong Mezzo voice. SIDE (measure 57-119)

IRIS, LOTUS, ORCHID, VIOLET, SUNFLOWER
(FEMALE, 20-30, Any Ethnicity) Looking for 5-6 actors to portray the Warriors, who live on Neverland as part of the brave Neverland tribe led by Tiger Lily. Strong dancer/singers with a keen sense of athleticism is required. Tumbling is a bonus. SIDE (measure 57-119)

THE PIRATES:

CAPTAIN HOOK
(MALE, 30’s-50’s, Any Ethnicity) Looking for a broad but truthful character actor capable of tenderness, comedy, and heightened bravado from a Shakespearian style mold. Larger than life – until the crocodile shows up and then as frightened as a baby. SIDE (measure 51-99)

SMEE
(MALE, 30’s-50’s, Any Ethnicity) Captain Hook’s right-hand-man. Jovial and lovable comedic character. Ideally this actor will be physically humorous. SIDE (measure 51-99)

NOODLER, CECCO, SPARKEY, BILL JUKES, LITTLE RICHARD, COOKSON
(MALE/FEMALE, 20 – 50, Any Ethnicity) Looking for 5-6 actors to portray the Pirates who live on the Jolly Roger in Neverland and serve at the pleasure of Captain Hook. Good singers able to move comfortably with a keen sense of comedy is required. Experience with stage combat a plus. SIDE (measure 51-99)
