August: Osage County is the story of 3 daughters and a domineering mom — and an extended family gathering that ignites in the Oklahoma summer heat. The best new American play in decades and an uproarious theatrical experience you cannot miss!

“A fraught, densely plotted saga of an Oklahoma clan in a state of near-apocalyptic meltdown, “August” is… flat-out, no asterisks and without qualifications, the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years. Fiercely funny and bitingly sad.  - NY Times

CARDINAL’S PRODUCTION OF AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY
  • was originally produced at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre, where it was immediately hailed as “a major not-to-be-missed new American work”
  • was whisked to New York where it was christened best play of the decade by Time Magazine and Entertainment Weekly, and playwright Tracy Letts was awarded the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play
  • stars Indianapolis’ Constance Macy (Jean Louise in To Kill a Mockingbird  and Mrs. Van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank)
  • also stars Chicago’s Diane Doresey, who plays the acid-tongued, pill-popping family matriarch Violet Weston. Diane was introduced to Cardinal when her husband Danny Goldring played Henry Drummond in Cardinal’s 2009 production of Inherit the Wind.  We’ve been waiting 4 years to get Diane back to Bloomington!
  • features a stunning set design by C. David Higgins (Little Shop of Horrors, All My Sons, To Kill a Mockingbird), costume design by Ellen MacKay (To Kill a Mockingbird), and lighting design by Cardinal favorite Michael C Jackson (A Year with Frog and Toad, Bill W. and Dr. Bob, Big River, To Kill a Mockingbird,  Next to NormalUnderneath the Lintel, and Lord of the Flies
