Birchler, JoeyJoey Birchler (Nicest Kids In Town) will start his senior year as a BFA student in musical theatre in the fall. For IU Theatre: Into the Woods (Rapunzel’s Prince), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Reverend Crisparkle), Guys and Dolls (Sky Masterson). For Indiana Festival Theatre: Moses Man (Multiple roles), Godspell (“Light of the World” track). For Bloomington Playwrights Project: Make Me Bad (Detective Dan Nordvig). For University Players: Food For Thought (Cody), The Rocky Horror Show (Riff Raff). For Grand Valley State University Opera Theatre: Three Penny Opera (Macheath), The Light in the Piazza (Ensemble). Joey is from Ann Arbor, Michigan.


Cason, QuinnQuinn Cason (Seaweed J. Stubbs) hails from Lebanon, TN, and is extremely excited to be performing for Cardinal Stage Company in the wonderful state of Indiana. He is an alumnus of the University of Tennessee, where he studied opera performance and theatre. Favorite credits include Pinocchio (Shrek), Mary Sunshine (Chicago), Cousin Kevin (Tommy), Marquis (La Traviata), and Proprietor (Assassins). Vast thanks to all his family and friends for their continued support and encouragement.



Cusack, Sam

Sam Cusack (Corny Collins) is an upper elementary teacher at Bloomington Montessori School. This is Sam’s seventh Cardinal Stage Company production. Previously, he appeared in My Fair Lady, Annie, Big River, Charlotte’s Web, August: Osage County, and Les Miserables. He sings in the Unitarian Universalist Church Choir. Sam is married with two daughters. His family resides on a small farmstead, where his wife grew up. Sam has degrees from the University of North Carolina and the Culinary Institute of America. And he is proud to say that he was born in the beautiful metropolis of Baltimore!


Eilers,-KaylaKayla Eilers (Amber Von Tussle) is thrilled to be back at Cardinal Stage. She was recently seen in Cardinal’s children show Junie B. Jones. Kayla is a BFA musical theatre student at Indiana University. For IU Opera and Ballet Theatre: South Pacific (Nellie Forbush). For IU Theatre: University Players, Legally Blonde (Elle Woods),Guys and Dolls (Hot Box Girl),Chicago (Roxie Hart), Sunday in the Park With George (Nurse/Party Guest), Spring Awakening(Ensemble). Other: IFT Godspell, 54 Below Carner and Gregor’s Barley Legal Showtune Extravaganza 2014, BPP Island Song (Shoshana), Derby Dinner Playhouse The Wizard of Oz(Ozian/Dance Ensemble), The International Thespian Festival The Drowsy Chaperone (Janet), 2012 N.F.A.A. Youngarts Finalist. Kayla is from Louisville, KY.


Fonseca, AlejandroAlejandro Fonseca (Nicest Kids In Town) is so excited to make his Cardinal debut in Hairspray! He is a recent graduate from Indiana University with a BS in Kinesiology and minor in Telecommunications. He was born in Austin, Texas and grew up in Newburgh, Indiana. While pursuing his degree, he was able to work with David Parson’s in “Nacimento Novo”, Larry Keigwin in “Runaway”, and most recently Ishan Rustem in the Hubbard Street 2 piece: “Long Story Short”. During his time in school, he was able to work in the summer seasons in St. Louis at The MUNY (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and West Side Story). He recently took a year off from his studies to travel on the North American tour of West Side Story. You can follow him on social media: @alejandreamy

Franke, CraigCraig Franke (Nicest Kids In Town) is thrilled to be making his Cardinal Stage debut with this incredibly talented cast. Craig is about to be a junior in the BFA Musical Theatre Program at IU. He’d like to thank everyone who helped him get to this point, especially his parents. For IU Theatre: Calvin/Ensemble in Guys and Dolls, James Throttle/Waiter in Drood, Steward in Into the Woods. For IFT; Joe in Schoolhouse Rock, Mr. Mayor in the upcoming production of Suessical. Garrett,-DanielleDanielle Garrett (Dynamites-Kamilah / Cindy) is a rising senior at Indiana University and studies Speech and Hearing Sciences. After three years off of the stage, she is excited to make her return as a Dynamite in Cardinal Stage Company’s production of Hairspray. She would like to thank her sisters, friends, and family for their support. She would also like to send special thanks to everyone involved in Hairspray, cast and crew, who have made her feel right back at home on the stage.



Genga, GerrianneGerrianne Genga (Velma Von Tussle) Originally from NYC, Gerrianne has performed in numerous NYC projects including, Barcode (NYC Fringe), Supersoldier, Small Town Story, Connections and Not Another Teenage Musical. She has also appeared in numerous Regional Theatre productions with favorite recent roles being Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street andMaria in Lend Me A Tenor. Film credits: Max Saves The World, A Cup Of Coffee, Friends First and Foremost, and Meet Joe Black. TV credits: Deadly Sins , Facing Trauma, Providence, Do You Know The Grants?


Huerta, CarolineCaroline Huerta (Nicest Kids In Town) is a rising junior BFA Musical Theatre major at Indiana University. She is extremely excited to be making her Cardinal Stage Company debut! For Indiana University Theatre: The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Helena Landless), Into The Woods (Jack’s Mother). For Indiana Festival Theatre: Moses Man (Sarah). For University Players: Fugitive Songs (Karen), Hello Herman (Marsha Dixon), BOB: A Life in Five Acts (Chorus 1), Hatter (Mock Turtle). Other: Evita (Eva Perón), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Mrs. Meers). Caroline is from Tampa, Florida.


Makobi, SylvesterSylvester Makobi (Gilbert) is from Nairobi, Kenya. He is going to the second year of his Performer Diploma at Jacobs School of Music, studying singing with Professor Marietta Simpson. He has been a soloist and a conductor with the Kenyan Boys Choir and the co-founder of Taifa Mziki, performing in different parts of the world, including the UK, France, China and the US. Makobi has appeared as tenor soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, Requiem Mass, Coronation Mass, Haydn’s Creation, and a number of times in Handel’s Messiah. His opera roles include Second Priest in The Magic Flute, Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Marriage of Figaro and Ferrando in Cosí fan tutte by Mozart and ‘Elder/Villager’ in Ondieki the Fisherman by F. Chandler. He performed the tenor roles for Reimagining Opera for Kids outreach program in Chappell Kingsland’s newly commissioned opera, The Firebringers. Hairspray will mark his first appearance in musical theatre.


Marra,-AllisonAllison Marra (Nicest Kids In Town) is so excited to be a part of the cast of Hairspray! She just graduated in May from Indiana University with a BA in theatre and drama. Allison was last seen performing in Shrek for Cardinal Stage as Gingy/Sugar Plum Fairy. For University Players: Fugitive Songs (Alysha), Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No good, Very Bad Day (Annie/Patty), The Rocky Horror Show (Dance Ensemble). Allison was a proud member of IU’s improv group Awkward Silence Comedy. She wants to thank her family and friends for all of the support they give!


Martin, LeeLee Martin (Motormouth Maybelle) is enjoying her first Bloomington show with Cardinal Stage Company. She is thrilled to be playing Motormouth Maybelle. Lee was born and raised in New York City and has recently moved to the Bloomington area. Lee has a lot of experience in the musical world. She began singing in church at the age of 5 and later joined a Christian theatrical group. Lee has performed in various plays throughout high school. As a young adult she continued singing in various Latin Bands. She sang for the Marist College Gospel Choir and has experience as a Latin back-up singer for various artists. When living in New York, she was in a number of shows. She played Anita in West Side Story, Laurey in Oklahoma!, and the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. She and her husband Chuck have two sons: Jordan and Justin, and daughter Ashley. Lee’s soulful voice packs a punch with her Latin spice.

Mayse, KaitlynKaitlyn Mayse (Nicest Kids In Town) is a rising senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre at Indiana University. For Cardinal Stage Company: 1776 (Martha Jefferson). For IU Theatre: Into the Woods (Rapunzel), Guys and Dolls (Hot Box Girl/Vernon), Sunday in the Park with George (Woman with Baby Carriage/Photographer). For BPP: Greta (Greta), The Truman Show (Mrs. Washington/Marjorie). For Indiana Festival Theatre: Moses Man (Lia), Island Song (Antonia). For University Players: Legally Blonde (Brooke), The Rocky Horror Show (Columbia), Zombie Prom (Toffee). A NATS and NSAL Musical Theatre Winner, Hutton Honors Scholar, and member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Sorority, Kaitlyn is from St. Louis, MO.


Milan, BriannaBrianna Milan (Dynamites-Judine / Lorraine) is an upcoming junior BFA Musical Theatre student at Indiana University. Brianna has portrayed the role of Sheyla Duvall in University Players Hello Herman and also has been seen in both the workshop of Moses Man and Indiana Festival Theatre’s Moses Man. You may have recently seen Brianna portraying the role of Aunt Elegua in The Red And Brown Water, her IU Main Stage début . Brianna Is thrilled to be working with the Hairspray cast and Cardinal Stage Company! Brianna thanks her friends and family for all their love and support!


Nguy, MeadowMeadow Nguy (Nicest Kids In Town) soprano, is in the second year of her BFA degree in Musical Theater. She performed as Hunyak in Indiana University’s 2013 production of Chicago, Leilani in Univeristy Player’s 2014 production of Legally Blonde, and will be creating the role of Arabella in the world premiere of Stay Dog Theatre’s Spellbound in St. Louis, MO. Nguy performed as Liat at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music production of South Pacific in 2015, a featured dancer in Indiana University’s 2014 Production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood and a company member in University Player’s 2014 Production of 35 MM. Nguy performed in Chicago at the 2012 Millennium Park Concert with the Broadway Players and appeared in the 2012 Broadway or Bust series on PBS. She was the winner of the 2012 Illinois High School Musical Theater Award in the Jimmy Nederlander Competition, 2014 Norvelle Theater Excellence Award, and is a student of Ray Fellman.

Price, MikeMike Price (Wilbur Turnblad) has acted in Cardinal Stage productions including 1776, Brighton Beach Memoirs, The 39 Steps, Les Misérables, Chatlotte’s Web, The Lonesome West, My Fair Lady, August: Osage County, Underneath the Lintel, and A Year with Frog and Toad. Mike has an MA in instructional systems technology and has worked as an instructional video producer/director and instructional consultant. He is the associate artistic director at Cardinal Stage Company and assists with fight choreography and movement, as well as media, web and production technical issues.


Harris, CourtneyCourtney Reid Harris (Penny Pingleton) is a sophomore BFA musical theatre student at Indiana University. She most recently was in IU Theatre’s production of Into the Woods (the Granny). For University Players: Legally Blonde(Chutney / Ensemble). Independent Projects: the English language premiere of I Didn’t Expect Such Humanity. Currently for the IU Office of First Year Experiences: Welcome to College (Lucy). She will be seen later this summer in Indiana Festival Theatre’s Seussical the Musical (Mayzie LaBird). Beginning this fall she will co-host WTIU’s The Friday Zone, airing on PBS in Indiana and parts of Illinois. She is also the proud recipient of The Column’s Ben Brettell Young Actor ’14 award for her work with the Artes de la Rosa Latino Cultural Arts Center. Courtney Reid is from Fort Worth, Texas.
Renn, KevinKevin Renn (Duane) is thrilled to be making his Cardinal Stage Company debut in Hairspray. Kevin is a junior majoring in theatre and drama at Indiana University. For IU Theatre: Into The Woods (Milky White), In the Red and Brown Water (Ogun). Other credits: All in the Timing (Milton); PIPPIN (Ensemble); for StageOne Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Ishmaelite/Ensemble), for The Drama Studio Legally Blonde: The Musical (Padamadan), Monty Python’s SPAMALOT (Brother Maynard/Knights Who Say Ni), and The Fantasticks (Bellomy). Kevin is from New Albany, Indiana.


Shakalis, ConnieConnie Shakalis (Prudy Pingleton / Gym Teacher / Matron) is excited to return to Cardinal after playing Eunice Hubbell in Streetcar Named Desire. She and her husband recently moved to Bloomington from New York, where she led an improv theater group and was the singer for the Long Island Accordion Alliance. She also wrote and performed her one-woman cabaret act in clubs throughout Manhattan, including Freddy’s Supper Club and Danny’s Skylight Room. Earlier this year, she gave a concert for Bloomington’s Friday Musicale chapter and played multiple roles in Blizzard at Bloomington Playwrights Project. A former member of Actors Equity Association, she began in Indianapolis in Show Boat, starring Van Johnson and in Where’s Charley?, staring Robert Morse from TV’s Mad Men. She has toured the U.S. performing roles such as Nellie in South Pacific, Woman in Side by Side by Sondheim, Maria and the baroness in The Sound of Music, Dolly and Mrs. Molloy in Hello, Dolly!, and Vera in Ten Little Indians. Other roles include Fiona in Brigadoon, Phyllis in Iolanthe, Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore, Rosabella in The Most Happy Fella, and Woman in Oh Coward! Connie graduated Summa cum laude from the State University of New York and has won awards for her published writing. She also wrote and led tours of Central Park.

Smith, KaitlynKaitlyn Smith (Tracy Turnblad) is thrilled to be making her Cardinal Stage Company debut! Next year, she will be a senior BFA student in Musical Theatre at Indiana University. Kaitlyn most recently played Little Red in IU Theatre’s Into the Woods. For IU Theatre: Guys and Dolls (Miss Adelaide). For University Players: Legally Blonde (Pilar), Honey Brown Eyes (Jovanka), Zombie Prom (Coco/Ramona), Rocky Horror Show (Choreographer), and 35mm (Choreographer). Other: Shrek the Musical, South Pacific, Grease, and The Addams Family (MUNY St. Louis). Kaitlyn is the artistic director of University Players and also a director of the Hoosier Tap Company and the Hutton Honors Council Association. She is a NSAL and Nota School McGreevey Scholarship winner. Kaitlyn is from St. Louis, Missouri. She thanks Randy White and the whole Cardinal team for making her feel at home and giving her the opportunity to play her dream role! For Grandma Pat.

Talley, AnastasiaAnastasia Talley (Dynamites-Shayna) soprano, recently completed a Performer Diploma in Voice at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. While completing her Master’s Degree, she made her return to the IU Opera Theater stage as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro. In 2012 she made her IU Opera Theater debut with the role of Noémie in Massenet’s Cendrillon. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), where she studied with Dr. Kimberley Davis. While at USM, she performed the roles of Musetta (La Bohème) and First Lady (Die Zauberflöte). Talley is a student of Mary Ann Hart.


Teninty, VinceVincent Teninty* (Edna Turnblad) is honored to return to Cardinal Stage Company after previously appearing in A Streetcar Named Desire in 2014. Vincent has been an actor in the city of Chicago since 1999, and has worked with several different theatre companies including: The Goodman Theatre – Sweet Bird of Youth, Talking Pictures, and The Good Negro; Steppenwolf – Mother Courage and her Children and A Lesson Before Dying; Timeline – A Cry of Players; Strawdog – Julius Caesar; Steep Theatre – The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui; The Hypocrites – Desire Under the Elms, and last but not least, Pine Box Theater Company (of which he was the Artistic Director) – Life and Limb, Hot ‘N’ Throbbing and the 2011 hit A Girl with Sun in her Eyes. Other regional credits include The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, where he appeared in the world premier of Soups, Stews and Casseroles: 1976. He was also nominated for a Jeff Award in 2003 for his role as “Dexter” in Trivial Pursuits (Visions & Voices), and is a graduate of the School at Steppenwolf class of 2004. He has studied at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, and Western Michigan University. Vincent’s television credits include The Beast (A&E TV), BOSS (Starz Network), Chicago Fire and most recently Chicago PD (NBC).

Underwood, DavidDavid Underwood (Mr. Pinky / Harriman F. Spritzer / Principal) is delighted to appear in Hairspray with his wife Becky and daughter CeCe. His previous work with Cardinal Stage was as Caesar Rodney in 1776 and Uncle Henry/Guard in The Wizard of Oz. David earned an MFA in Directing from the Indiana University Department of Theatre and Drama in 1984. He taught Theatre and directed plays at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. His favorite directing projects were The Dresser, Kiss Me Kate, and All My Sons. He is a sales director for Penguin Random House.


Van Wye, ScottScott Van Wye (Link Larkin) is excited to be playing in Cardinal Stage Company’s production of Hairspray this summer. For Cardinal Stage Company: Shrek (Big Bad Wolf), Junie B. Jones (Sheldon/Chenille). For IU Theater: Drood (John Jasper), Romeo & Juliet (Mercutio). Scott will be a sophomore BFA musical theater major at IU. He’d like to thank his friends and family for coming to the show. He is from Indianapolis, Indiana.



Weidenbener, Matthew - New HeadshotMatthew Weidenbener (Nicest Kids In Town) is a sophomore B.F.A. in musical theatre at IU. Matthew is very happy to join Cardinal again after his recent role in Shrek (Pinocchio). Other credits include for IU Theatre: Into the Woods (Giant/Ensemble). For Cardinal Stage: The Birthday Feast (Jack), Willy Wonka (Augustus Gloop), Les Miserables, Charlotte’s Web (Wilbur). For Theatre South: How to Succeed (J. Pierrepont Finch), Grease! (Roger). Soon, Matthew can be seen weekly as the co-host of WTIU’s “The Friday Zone” airing on PBS throughout Indiana and parts of Illinois. He is from Bloomington, Indiana.


White, DarianDarian White (Little Inez) hails from Indianapolis, Indiana and is currently at senior attending Indiana University. She is excited to be joining the Cardinal Stage family in their production of Hairspray. Darian currently works with Bloomington Expressive Arts Training, and is a member of the Singing Hoosiers. She enjoys beautifying the world around her, learning new things, and is always ready to take on a new adventure. She would like to thank family and friends for their endless support and Jesus Christ her personal Lord and Savior. Darian hopes that her presence on stage can be a light shining through any darkness in your life.
