SEPT 1-9 Waldron Auditorium – The season kicks off with a Texas-sized bang! Our town’s favorite actress, the legendary Diane Kondrat (Red Hot Patriot, The Grapes of Wrath), returns to Bloomington to headline a no-holds-barred portrait of trailblazing Texas Governor Ann Richards. Ann plays a limited nine-day run in the Ivy Tech Waldron Auditorium.
SEPT 23 – OCT 9 Waldron Auditorium – Cardinal dons a deerstalker cap for the spooky, mischievous Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. This wickedly fun take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most popular mystery features five actors playing dozens of roles in the madcap style of The 39 Steps.
OCT 28 – NOV 13 Waldron Auditorium – Artistic director Randy White takes on Shakespeare’s courtroom tour de force with an all-female cast. Marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Cardinal’s Merchant is produced in association with IU’s College of Arts and Sciences’ 2016 Themester on “Beauty.”
DEC 16 – 31 Buskirk-Chumley Theater – This year’s family holiday show celebrates 10 years of kids contributing to Cardinal with a revival of Lionel Bart’s glorious Oliver!. The show will be produced in partnership with multiple local youth groups and will feature a cast of 75+ kids, along with our own legendary Mike Price as the thieving scalawag Fagin!
FEB 3 – 19 Waldron Auditorium – The Legend of Georgia McBride is the story of a talented, but broke Elvis impersonator with family obligations who discovers his true calling when a seasoned drag queen brings her show to town. Trade in your sequin jumpsuit for a fabulous sequin dress in this fierce, fabulous, “drag” of a show!
“A highly entertaining, genuine crowd-pleaser!”
MAR 17 – APR 2 Waldron Auditorium – King Charles III is the winner of the 2015 Olivier Award for Best New Play and nominee for the 2016 Best New Play Tony award, as well as the #1 Play of 2015 as chosen by the The New York Times, Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and Associated Press. King Charles III takes place in an imagined future. Elizabeth has been laid to rest and the new King’s first brave (or is it foolhardy?) act threatens the very existence of the English crown! William and Kate are determined to usurp the throne and save the house of Windsor while a restless Harry and the ghost of Diana haunt the palace. This fiendishly clever future Shakespearean history play is a treat for fans of Hamlet and People Magazine alike!
JUN 16 – 25 Buskirk-Chumley Theater – Rounding out the season is Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim’s masterwork West Side Story. Inspired by Romeo and Juliet and showcasing one of the greatest scores in musical theatre history, Cardinal’s production of West Side promises to bring the 10th Anniversary Season of Legends to a grand, glorious, sweeping conclusion.
