As part of its mission, Cardinal aims to cultivate a lifelong passion for the stage by offering diverse, high quality productions in tandem with educational and outreach initiatives that make theatre rewarding and accessible for all.
On the administrative and production fronts, Cardinal has a number of programs in place for interns and young theatre practitioners. The company will also soon launch a series of masterclasses and summer training classes for various ages and levels of experience.
But the core of Cardinal’s outreach efforts are focused on two critical programs.

Community Access Tickets (CATs)
While Cardinal tickets are offered at a range of prices, we recognize that the options still do not work for all budgets. The Community Access Tickets is designed to facilitate access to theatre for all members of our community, regardless of their ability to pay. Since it was launched 3 years ago, Cardinal has raised enough funds to make it possible for over 3000 kids and family members to see shows like The Diary of Anne Frank, Annie, A Year with Frog and Toad and Go, Dog. Go! at absolutely no charge.
CATs will continue to make it possible for hundreds of underserved kids and families to see shows this season. If you know of organizations and/or individuals who would benefit from being part of the CATs program, please contact our marketing manager Heidi Harmon in the Cardinal office (812.336.7110) and she will be pleased to discuss options.
The CATs program aims to cultivate a lifelong passion for the theatre in people of all ages and backgrounds and we are determined to make Cardinal performances affordable for all. And this is made possible by the generous support of corporate sponsors, foundations and individual donors like you!

Cardinal for Schools
Two years ago, Cardinal Stage was honored to win the local Chamber of Commerce’s Franklin Initiative Leading Light Award for Educational Outreach. But we continue to believe that we must work harder on education and outreach efforts and so earlier this year we launched the vital new Cardinal for Schools program in an effort to make Cardinal shows more affordable for local students.
The idea for Cardinal for Schools grew out of a firm belief that children benefit from seeing professional-quality live theatre, especially when it is presented in conjunction with educational materials that are keyed to the state’s curricular standards and extend the experience beyond the theatre itself and back into the home and the classroom.
But talks with enthusiastic teachers about their limited resources made it clear that we needed to do much more to assist struggling schools. And so we launched Cardinal for Schools to reduce the cost of special student matinees up to 80% off regular prices. Our goal this first year is to bring 3000 students to shows across the season. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and individual donors, we’re halfway to our goal of raising the necessary $30,000 by January.
