Detailed Plot Description
“My only love sprung from my only hate!”
Shakespeare’s tragic tale of star-crossed lovers marks Cardinal’s foray into the works of the Bard….
The warring households of Verona are illicitly united when the only son of the Montagues, the dashing young Romeo, falls in love with the Capulet’s daughter Juliet, and she with him.
With the help of her Nurse, the young lovers are secretly married. But misfortune strikes and Juliet’s cousin Tybalt is slain in a bloody brawl with Romeo. The ruling Prince exiles the young Montague from the city, warning him that to return would tantamount to his death.
Meanwhile Juliet learns of her betrothal to Count Paris, a nobleman chosen by her parents. Desperate she enlists the help of Friar Lawrence who concocts a drug which will make her seem as if dead. Laid to rest in the family tomb she is found by Romeo, who, believing she is truly dead, kills himself. Upon waking, Juliet finds his lifeless body beside her, reaches for his dagger and kills himself.
The grief-stricken families finally lay down their weapons, and end their tragic feud.
